About the team

The Cards team at Airwallex builds and maintains distributed systems that enable businesses to issue debit cards and manage expenses at scale. The team addresses complex requirements around compliance, security, and the evolving needs of global users, supporting millions of seamless card transactions and ensuring robust, reliable expense management solutions for companies worldwide.

What you’ll do

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Lead to lead our Cards team. As the Engineering Lead, you will drive technical decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure the scalability and reliability of our procurement platform.

This role is based in Singapore.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of scalable and efficient product features within the Cards domain.

  • Define and execute the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with business and customer needs.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritise and integrate new features seamlessly.

  • Ensure solutions are high-quality, secure, and performant, with a strong focus on user experience.

  • Architect systems that scale efficiently and handle increasing data volumes.

  • Drive best practices in software engineering, including agile development, continuous integration, and automated testing.

  • Communicate technical decisions, progress, and risks effectively to stakeholders.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Who you are

We're looking for people who meet the minimum qualifications for this role. The preferred qualifications are great to have, but are not mandatory.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience

  • 1+ years of experience leading or mentoring engineers, ideally in a team lead or engineering manager capacity

  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and balance multiple projects effectively

  • A collaborative, problem-solving mindset; comfortable working closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver solutions

  • Ability to build solid working relationships across teams and with stakeholders, fostering trust and alignment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on team development and clear, transparent leadership

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with backend technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Spring / Spring Boot

  • Familiarity with fintech and global payment systems.
