BetaCarbon is a fintech at the intersection of environmental impact and blockchain technology
Our mission is to increase the demand for quality Australian carbon credits, in turn bringing new green projects online and accelerating the path to net-zero. To do this we have created a token (BCAU) that represents 1kg of carbon removed from the atmosphere by quality, monitored green projects. These tokens can be bought and traded as an investment
We are now building the first consumer and investment products on top of this token - they are trail-blazing applications that change the way people think about their role (as investors or consumers) in solving the climate crisis
We are a well-funded team of 15 that is growing quickly. We are supported by generous seed funding and substantial existing revenue streams
BetaCarbon has been nominated for four Finnie awards in 2022 - Excellence in Blockchain/Distributed Ledgers, Emerging Fintech of the Year, Best Workplace Diversity, Excellence in Crypto and Digital Currencies
What is the role?
You will be leading Product Design across BetaCarbon. This includes UI (design systems, patterns, components), and overall visual design. Your focus will be on two products - 1. a retail investment product; and 2. a consumer rewards product. One of these is newly launched, and one is in the discovery stage.
In this role you will be an early member of the Product team. You will work alongside separate UX, research, Product Management, comm’s, and marketing functions. You will be backed by a Product and Engineering leadership that appreciate and advocate for design quality as we build our products
This is a hybrid role. We’ll consider those in Sydney and Melbourne. We don’t always need to be in the office together. But we know that getting in front of a whiteboard regularly keeps us aligned and helps us move fast
In the first 3 months, you will:
- Enhance the design of our first product following its launch, and design new features alongside UX/research teams
- Work in lock-step with engineering to ensure implementation is true to your design vision
- Lead medium-fidelity design for a new product in partnership with UX and user researchers
- Guide visual design in other areas (e.g. marketing)
In the first 6 months, you will:
- Craft our second product, actively iterating every Sprint in partnership with UX and user research
- Lead the development of a design system, supported by product and engineering teams
- Lead or support the refinement of our brand and visual identity as we broaden products and markets
- Promote consistency and quality across our visual identity
- Start recruiting and growing the UI team
In 12+ months, you will:
- Guide** **design system implementation
- Champion and be the custodian for good visual design across BetaCarbon
- Evolve into a true people-leader for BetaCarbon’s Product craftspeople. We are ready to provide coaching and support to help with this evolution
We’d love to chat if you:
- Are a “mid-weight” Product Designer with >5 years of experience, looking to step-up into a role where you can really drive the design direction of new products
- Have a deep interest and expertise in product design, interaction design and visual design. We’re looking for depth in these areas over UX/UI generalists
- Are a craftsperson. You set very high standards - think attention to detail and quality
- Are quick to adapt, iterate fast. You have worked in an agile environment
- Have worked in a startup on consulting environment (and know how to navigate urgency, ambiguity etc.)
- Have experience designing for the mainstream - think financial services (e.g. banking, insurance), fintech, consumer-tech. Primarily on mobile app’s
- Want to be part of the solution to climate change
