What you’ll be doing

• Ship at scale: Build the backend systems that power global startup teams - fast, reliable, and secure.
• Shape the platform: Architect APIs, own backend components and push Cake’s product design and performance & automated testing forward.
• Work as one team: Partner closely with product, design, and frontend engineers - fewer handoffs, more real collaboration.
• Automate & optimize: Tackle scaling challenges, speed up deployments, and bring creative thinking to ML, LLMs, and internal automation.
• Own your impact: Contribute to our tech roadmap and drive the backend and testing evolution of Cake as we grow deeper into the US and global markets.

You’ll thrive if you have:

• 6-8+ years backend experience (Python/Django especially) - startup exposure a bonus.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), Docker and scalable backend architectures.
• API design experience.
• Curiosity around LLMs, ML and smarter automation.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks/ TDD or willingness to build smarter testing practices as part of everyday development, setting a high bar for reliability.
• Passion for clean, secure code - and making systems run faster and smarter.
• Self-motivation and comfort working remotely with a global team.
• SQL fluency - data modeling, query optimisation, performance mindset.
