Job Description
We are looking for a Financial Controller to join our Group Finance and Planning Division on a 12-month maximum term contract.
Your Opportunity
The Financial Controller is responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of the Group’s year‑end statutory financial statements and Annual Report, while concurrently leading the financial control function through 2 significant change programs, in implementing a new General Ledger (GL) and the ongoing integration of a recently acquired subsidiary into the business.
This role is execution‑focused and suited to a senior finance professional with strong technical accounting expertise, proven audit and annual reporting experience, and hands‑on capability in implementing change. The role will provide stability, leadership and technical depth through a critical reporting and transformation period. In addition, the Financial Controller plays a critical role in managing the Financial Control function within the Financial Reporting & Control team. This covers financial accounting, control and reporting duties as listed below.
You’ll also make an impact by:
- Lead the full year-end close process, including coordination of group entities and complex accounting areas.
- Prepare and review statutory financial statements in accordance with AASB / IFRS and Corps Act requirements.
- Own the Annual Report delivery timetable, ensuring on-time approval by external auditors, and Board committees.
- Draft and review key sections of the Annual Report, including the financial statements and notes, key accounting policies and Directors’ declaration (financial sections), as well as ‘left hand notes’ to the accounts.
- Act as the primary liaison with external auditors, managing audit requests, issues resolution and sign-off.
- Prepare technical accounting papers for accounting areas of judgement Position Description alongside the Senior Manager, Corporate Finance.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard the Group’s assets;
- Ensures that the integrity of the various financial accounting and reporting processes, systems and procedures are maintained.
- Oversight of month end and year end close process and general ledger reconciliation practices, including reporting/escalation.
- Support internal and external audit requirements during the year end
- Act as key point of contact for financial control for the ongoing implementation of a new general ledger (Workday).
- Refinement of chart of accounts, accounting rules and controls and reporting hierarchies;
- Ensure the new GL supports statutory, audit and control requirements.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring
You’ve got solid commercial acumen, an eye for detail with excellent influencing and communication skills. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are driven to contribute to a dynamic team.
To succeed in this role, you’ll have:
- 7+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, including experience producing consolidated financial statements in a listed environment
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AAS) and regulatory requirements
- Excellent ability to manage auditors, tight deadlines and competing priorities
- Excellent analytical and strategic problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g. financial services, banking, payments)
- Advanced Excel skills and Intermediate MS Word / Powerpoint skills
- ‘Big 4’ accounting firm background
You’ll stand out from the crowd if you have some of the following:
- Knowledge of Workday financial systems
- Experience in the production of APRA returns for a domestic ADI
- Moderate or better management reporting system skills such as; TM1
