We are seeking a full-time Policy Lead to take ownership of all policy advocacy work undertaken by Fintech Australia and to assist the team. This is a pivotal area of focus for our organisation and as such this role will be vitally important to its ongoing success as the peak industry body for Fintech in Australia.
Job Summary – Who you are, and what you’ll do
We're looking for an independent, hardworking and ambitious Policy Lead. This is a high profile role and a rare opportunity to be responsible for a key pillar of the organisation’s member offering. You will also get to work closely with some of the most exciting fintech startups in Australia as they launch, grow and scale in the market. Gain unrivaled knowledge, experience and connections in the Fintech space and connect with vital stakeholders across industry and government as we seek to help shape the narrative of government policy to benefit the local ecosystem and ultimately the Australian economy.
We are a fun, dynamic and extremely agile team that provides exceptional service to our members and partners. Reporting directly to the CEO, this job will see you work with our team, our members, policy partners and other ecosystem stakeholders to deliver our vital policy advocacy work in order to help ensure Australia is a leading hub for Fintech innovation and growth.
It’s also important to understand that this role, while being highly intellectually rewarding, will by no means be easy – we embrace uncertainties, emphasise independent learning and growth, and we get our hands dirty when necessary all in order to aid our members and partners.
You will be based out of the vibrant Stone and Chalk hubs in either Sydney or Melbourne. A fantastic place for connecting with many leading businesses in the Australian Fintech space.
Principle accountabilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Keep abreast of upcoming policy consultations, regulatory changes, whitepapers and discussions
- Use member feedback to proactively approach government with suggestions from industry on areas of policy focus
- Provide timely updates to FA members on all upcoming discussions and ensure the direct connection of those members wishing to participate in this manner
- Convene and run roundtable discussions with members seeking broad feedback on policy discussions
- Collate and refine member feedback for policy submissions
- Independently research and draft policy submissions and correspondence to members and government
- Liaise with external policy partners (law firms and other external advisors) to assist in the creation of policy submissions to government
- Represent FA in roundtable discussions with Treasury and other government bodies seeking industry comment and submissions
- Assist the CEO in the representation of FA at Senate and other inquiries related to feedback on policy influences on the Fintech Industry
- Maintain contacts with journalists and in conjunction with our PR team, provide relevant information to the media regarding our the policy stance FA takes on behalf of its members
- Support the FA team in developing high quality content and coordinating government involvement in key events, including Intersekt and CDR Summit
- It is important that the successful candidate be able to build very quick rapport with many related stakeholders, Members, policy partners, regulators, govt departments and ministerial staff and maintain these ongoing at a high level.
Qualifications required
- A good understanding, and appreciation for, the process of government policy creation
- Proven ability to self manage and deliver projects on time
- Experience in writing policy submissions and engaging with financial services policy/regulatory changes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to present in front of an audience
- Ability to manage multi-faceted stakeholder relationships and bring diverse feedback into a cohesive and succinct format
- Direct experience in financial services or in the startup industry, would be a plus. You must at least however show an understanding of, or eagerness to learn about, the fintech and entrepreneurial ecosystem and the impact of policy on it.
- A background in law, communications or with a regulator or government department would also be considered a benefit
- Energetic and “can-do” personality - and a willingness to “roll up the sleeves and get it done”.
