More about the Group Treasury Graduate Program (Feb 2027) role at Westpac

Our Organisation

As Australia’s first bank and oldest company, Westpac —which started life as the Bank of New South Wales in 1817—represents a central, unbroken thread that runs through Australian history. It has survived and thrived because it has been guided by the same purpose over the years: to provide stability, support customers and communities, and help grow the economy.

Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) delivers a broad range of financial services to commercial, corporate, institutional and government customers operating in, and with connections to, Australia and New Zealand.

When you join Westpac, you’ll be empowered to make a difference, speak your truth and discover what success means to you. But best of all you’ll be joining a whole organisation of people who love helping others find their success.

Our Grad Program

We’re looking to fill our programs with original thinkers and innovators from all degrees of study. Challenging and rewarding – our programs will get your career off to a flying start.

Our Group Treasury Program

Group Treasury is responsible for capital, funding and balance sheet management across Westpac. In this program you will be exposed to the “bank of the bank”, learning the key aspects of how we strategically shape the balance sheet while managing liquidity risk, capital, data and operational risk - always with a focus on creating and protecting value for both our customers and the Group long into the future.

This is a 12-month program with 4 x 3-month rotations.

Focusing on the core functions of Group Treasury, your rotations will be designed to provide on-the-job training, along with specific technical and soft skill coaching from leading specialists, to support your future career in banking.

Whilst this stream provides exposure to aspects of market risk management, it is not a trading program. Trading experience can be obtained via an application to the Financial Markets & Treasury stream.

Some examples of areas which Group Treasury graduates can consider entering on completion of the program:

  • Balance Sheet Management
  • Group Liquidity
  • Regulatory Strategy and Capital
  • Treasury Data & Analytics
  • Global Funding
