Hatch is looking for process engineering professionals to support an AI research project with one of our partners through flexible, hourly contract work.
This is not a traditional job. You’ll draw on your hands-on experience with reservoir engineering, subsurface analysis, and production operations to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand subsurface workflows and reservoir engineering practices.
Note: This role is not with Hatch. It is with a partner AI lab.

Key details
- Start: Immediate
- Pay: AUD$65 per hour
- Duration: 3-week project, with the possibility of extension
- Hours: Up to 40 hours per week; no minimum hours
- Location: Fully remote, asynchronous schedule
You will be asked to complete real work tasks in a structured format, independently producing expert-level analytical work using the tools and workflows from your professional practice. This could include interpreting subsurface datasets, evaluating decline and reserves estimates, reviewing well and production performance, or assessing reservoir simulation outputs.
What You’ll Do
- Review AI-generated upstream engineering and subsurface analysis work products for technical accuracy and realism
- Provide clear, structured feedback that helps improve model performance on reservoir engineering workflows
- Complete short, self-contained work tasks using the same approaches you use in professional practice (data interpretation, calculations, documentation)
- Experience: At least 2 years of professional experience in reservoir engineering, subsurface analysis, or production operations, in roles such as:
- Reservoir Engineer or Petrophysicist
- Production Engineer or Reserves Analyst
- Tools: Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
- Spotfire
- CMG
- MBAL
- FracPro
- PVTi
- WellView
- Petrel
- Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and asynchronously with AI research teams
- Bachelor's degree or higher required
