The Role:
We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to support and scale our growing engineering function. This is a 'first-of' role at iGoDirect and a critical hire to improve engineering leadership, delivery predictability, and technical execution.
You’ll work closely with the CTO and across product, commercial, and customer teams to unify engineering efforts and bring structure to how we build. We’re in the midst of evolving our platform and currently operate a mix of modern and legacy systems.
Our future state is a modern service-oriented architecture using TypeScript/Node.js, React, and containerised deployments in the cloud. For now, we would love to see some familiarity with .NET, PHP, Node.js, NestJS, NextJS and/or React, some cloud experience (AWS, Azure) with exposure to PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker and/or GitHub a huge bonus.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead day-to-day team operations, ensuring engineering work is well-planned, executed, and delivered on time.
- Collaborate with the CTO on technical direction and roadmap prioritisation.
- Introduce and refine agile practices (e.g., sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives) to replace ad-hoc Kanban. A key part of this role is to help us mature our agile practice, introducing structured sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, and delivery cadences that match our product and platform goals.
- Build delivery frameworks and rituals that bring structure, clarity, and accountability to the roadmap.
- Break down large initiatives into actionable development tasks and distribute work effectively across the team.
- Own and oversee delivery of key integration projects across our platform.
- Act as the connective tissue between Product and Engineering—translating vision into executable plans.
- Monitor and report on progress, blockers, and risks to ensure transparency and proactive mitigation.
- Champion transparency and communication by setting clear expectations and providing regular updates.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and support to engineers (currently you’d directly manage a team of 5+ helping them grow and do their best work.
- Foster a positive, accountable, and delivery-focused culture within the engineering team.
- Advocate for continuous improvement in delivery practices and tools across the team.
- Keep an eye on both short-term milestones and the long-term evolution of the platform.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years’ experience in engineering management, team leadership, or senior technical roles.
- Proven track record delivering cross-functional tech projects from concept to deployment.
- Hands-on software development background with strong understanding of agile methodologies.
- Experience with the Atlassian suite and running agile ceremonies.
- Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to turn broad product ideas into executable plans.
- Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to identify and resolve delivery issues.
- Experience in martech, fintech, or platform-based environments is a plus.
- Bonus points if you’ve worked on product integrations, platform unification, or large-scale migrations.
What We Offer:
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Flexible working arrangements, we have a slick new office in Fitzroy and you'll need to spend part of the week onsite, but we value outcomes over hours.
- An opportunity to work with a talented and passionate team on innovative products.
- A collaborative environment where your ideas are valued, and you can make a tangible impact.
- Adaptable attitude and personality that is ready for continuous change
- Be energised by the pace and opportunities in a scaling environment
