Job Description
Your new role and how you’ll make a difference
The Compliance Manager – Consumer Risk is an operational compliance role, reporting into the Chief Product Officer. The Compliance Manager will be responsible for ensuring illion’s Consumer Risk products are compliant with the regulations that apply, these include Open Banking, Comprehensive Credit Reporting and Artificial Intelligence.

Open Banking
illion Open Banking products are regulated by the ACCC under the Consumer Data Right Legislation. The Consumer Data Right legislation is relatively new to Australia, it imposes detailed and complex obligations on all organisations providing solutions in the Open Banking environment.
This role will be responsible for ensuring that illion are fully compliant with their Consumer Data Right obligations by maintaining and embedding compliance and related risk in change frameworks to ensure that our products and clients comply with existing and upcoming scheme and regulatory rules. The role ensures there is a positive risk and compliance culture where compliance with obligations is understood and appropriately prioritised and managed within an agile environment.
The role will work closely with the Open Banking Product Team, Consumer Risk Team and will also encompass working with customers to provide advice about the compliant use of illion’s Open Banking products in the customers environment.
Comprehensive Credit Reporting
- Good Understanding of the Australian Credit Reporting Regime and familiarity with ARCA Data Standards and PRDE.
- Experience in dealing with regulators and industry bodies.
- Relevant experience in financial services industry or with a credit reporting bureau.
- Experience in external/internal stakeholder engagement.
- Experience in the overall regulatory and lending environment that credit providers operate within.
Artificial Intelligence
- The role is also responsible for establishing and operating illion’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance structures. To achieve this, you will need to work across the business to build AI understanding and buy-in from a wide range of stakeholders.
The value-add things you’ll be doing
- Ensure illion’s Open Banking solutions are fully compliant with the Consumer Data Right legislation.
- Develop and periodically review the illion Consumer Data Right Policy and supporting policies and procedures, ensure they are updated and adhered to.
- Own and supervise internal CDR compliance procedures and controls.
- Manage internal control testing and formal third-party assurance engagements prior to submission of periodic attestation statements. As compliance manager you will be the primary point of contact with regulators for liaison and reporting purposes.
- Act as the CDR SME for product managers and implementation teams. Liaise with a broad range of stakeholders and provide product strategy context (the can and cannot’s of product design). Educate various operational functions through provision of training and resources.
- Support industry implementation of CDR.
- Learn, interpret, and maintain familiarity with current and emerging legislation and associated regulatory obligations.
- Good understanding of the Privacy Act.
- Respond to industry consultations and attend Industry forums and arrange workshops as required, sharing industry insights and trends to ensure illion delivers Industry accepted practices to its clients and their customers.
- Assist in Domain related issues including internal escalation of potential breaches and monitoring the status of business actions to resolve issues.
- Lead the construction and roll-out of illion's AI Policy and procedures which will include authorship, securing executive and/or board approval, staff training, staff communications, governance, and policy implementation.
- Remain abreast of regulatory and industry changes that could impact illion’s use of AI. Ensure that illion’s uses of AI are compliant with any current/planned legislation and industry best practices.
Qualifications
The experience and qualifications you’ll need to be successful
- Practical understanding of the Australian Consumer Data Right legislation and of AI
- Good understanding of Part IIIA of the Privacy Act, Credit Reporting Regimes and CCR.
- Experience in managing compliance changes and initiatives including supporting delivery and delivered risks through risk in change build and maintenance.
- Practical knowledge in compliance planning including obligation library construction, risk identification and control writing.
- The ability to translate technical requirements into business language.
- Natural collaborator and can influence action and outcomes across cross functional groups.
- A comprehensive understanding and experience of operational and compliance risk management experience in a financial services environment.
- Demonstrating sound understanding of Compliance principles, structures, and processes.
- Tertiary education in a commercial discipline is essential.
- RMIA or RMA accreditations preferred, having undertaken an AI Governance certification would be viewed favourably.
- Extensive experience collaborating with a complex and multi-tiered stakeholder group to realise commercial outcomes.
