Position Purpose | The purpose of the Senior Legal Counsel, Pacific role is to be a strategic business partner and play a key role in providing legal leadership to create value, contributing to strategic and business decision making and achieve the Company’s growth objectives. |
Key Responsibilities & Duties | Legal Advisory & Commercial Contracting - Provide strategic legal advice on complex issues to business stakeholders
- Partner with global legal team to deliver unified business solutions
- Advise on commercial-legal aspects across business functions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Sales, Finance, R&D, Professional Services, Operations) to achieve business objectives
- Manage high-stakes legal matters autonomously, including contract negotiations, corporate advice, and potential disputes
- Draft and negotiate diverse commercial agreements (MSAs, SOWs, procurement, licensing, software development agreements)
- Advise on governance and company policies
Strategic Legal Leadership - Identify emerging legal trends and proactively advise on risks and opportunities
- Work with stakeholders to implement new contract frameworks
- Execute strategic legal projects within budget and timelines
- Improve efficiency in legal operations
- Deliver educational sessions to raise awareness of policies and processes
Digital Transformation & Innovation - Support legal department digital transformation initiatives
- Optimise legal workflows through technology adoption
- Support innovative business models and product launches
Regulatory Compliance & Data Privacy - Strong understanding of global privacy regulations (GDPR, Privacy Act)
- Conduct privacy impact assessments
- Manage cybersecurity risk from a legal perspective
- Coordinate timely responses to privacy, security, or confidentiality breaches
Collaboration & Change Management - Work effectively in matrix environments with cross-functional teams
- Adapt to changing priorities using agile methodologies
- Guide stakeholders through significant legal or regulatory changes with effective communication of complex legal matters to non-legal teams
- Build consensus across diverse stakeholders
- Deliver quick, pragmatic legal solutions under time constraints

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience | - Strong ability in end-to-end contract negotiation including drafting, attention to detail and negotiating skills with demonstrated problem solving experience.
- Proven track record of providing strategic legal counsel and leading complex legal matters.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and persuade at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Capable of building trusted relationships with internal and external clients using balanced insights and impactful communication to influence decisions and actions.
- Practical and solutions-oriented. Works to be a proactive problem solver with a commercial approach.
- Willing and able to work in a fast-paced, emerging payments technology company environment, including, if necessary and where required, managing a small team.
- Previous in-house technology (cloud infrastructure, software platforms, hardware, software applications, network infrastructure) and payments sector experience, particularly enterprise business is highly desirable.
