Job Overview

This role is a Senior Manager role within the Accounting organization (Controllership, Operations, and Systems Assurance). The role is located in San Diego, CA. This leader is primarily responsible for ensuring the accounting and operations functions are working accurately, efficiently, aligned to our policies for revenue recognition. This position is a key member of our Revenue accounting leadership team as we develop the people, processes, and technology in service to accurate revenue recognition and financial statements while supporting Intuit’s overall growth.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills with the ability to organize self and team to deliver against critical objectives and priorities. They have the ability to collaborate and lead across multiple functions and roles. This leader will be able to navigate difficult issues successfully with the ability to drive issues through to resolution and validation.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the end-to-end operational, financial, and systemic environment and key upstream and downstream processes that drive financial and customer impacts. Drive strategy to support revenue recognition, new offerings, and business changes. Mobilize team towards more complete automation of the revenue we recognize.
  • Execute to success through diligent planning, attention to detail, effective delegation, efficient decision making, and individual/team accountability with focus on speed to benefit. Develops, maintains, and enforces the Company's revenue recognition policy under ASC 606, developing new positions and interpretations as needed. Stays connected to current business and offering strategies.
  • Lead the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Exercise good judgment in managing E2E accounting and operational risk with appropriate transparency.
  • Ensure proper oversight of activities of the staff and develop the team to deliver results along with their own personal leadership growth. Foster a team environment that encourages trust, accountability and excellence in delivery. Attract, develop, motivate, and retain talent within your own team and at times in the broader Corporate Accounting team.
  • Proactively lead and influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management. Cultivate strong relationships with leaders in Accounting, Finance, and across the Business in order to facilitate timely, high-quality decision-making in connection with revenue recognition matters.
  • Clearly articulate point of view regarding revenue issues and work with stakeholders to resolve, with transparency throughout all levels in the Intuit organization.
  • Apply professional skepticism and an inquisitive approach to review and analyze the appropriateness and reasonableness of underlying revenue accounting principles.
  • Implement and maintain the required process and internal control environment, and perform control procedures to ensure compliance with Company policy.
  • Ensure the proper accounting treatment for all product and service offerings is documented and that related accounts are properly prepared, reviewed, and substantiated.
  • Streamline systems and reporting tools to ensure efficient and accurate recording and proper classification of revenue. Drive the development of strategies to improve accounting operations effectiveness, including the development and execution of organizational, process and system changes
  • Stay current on evolving Accounting Standards pronouncements and updates under prevailing regulatory bodies (FASB, SEC), incorporating into current Company policy as necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, savvy about players and the environment. Frequently manages up and out to peers and partners, not just down within own org.
  • Anticipate risk, new/changed systems, process and accounting literature/regulations, assessing impact on current/future operations and overall environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting/Finance with minimum of 8 years’ post-graduate experience or equivalent relevant experience. CPA required. MBA is highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in technical accounting and financial reporting for large accelerated SEC filers in high-growth industries. Software or SaaS industry experience is a plus. Two or more years of public company audit experience.
  • Experience managing teams with varying levels of experience. Ability to lead a team in a dynamic environment, managing multiple and ever changing priorities, while consistently meeting tight deadlines.
  • Strong technical accounting and revenue knowledge for financial statements and internal controls over financial reporting. Demonstrated understanding of theory and application of relevant revenue recognition accounting literature.
  • Strong end-to-end process orientation with demonstrated analytical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills. Proactively address issues, own the outcome, and continuously strive for best in class processes and deliverables.
  • Experience with developing requirements, reviewing end-to-end processes, and contributing to and validating system design on implementations of enterprise financial reporting systems.
  • Ability to deliver outstanding business outcomes with effective and fast decision making that takes into account the interests of all four key stakeholders – employees, customers, shareholders, and partners.
  • Ability to influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management. Effectively navigates social dynamics of teams, groups, and organizations.
  • Confidence, good judgment, energy and personality to work in a dynamic, multi-business unit environment across all levels of management and across business units and functions.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, time prioritization, resource deployment, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, presentation and influencing skills, including the ability to elevate issues to the right level internally and externally to resolve.
  • Strong PC, worksheet and word processing skills.
  • Working knowledge of Oracle R12, Siebel/BRM and Qliksense is a plus.
