Job Overview

Come join us as a Group Engineering Manager on the QuickBooks International Growth team. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role responsible for leading our core strategy to accelerate International growth by leveraging cutting-edge AI and Machine Learning technologies.

We are seeking a seasoned, visionary engineering leader who will:

  1. Define and execute the technical strategy for key AI features and platform expansion across our global markets.
  2. Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of software and AI engineers, establishing a world-class culture of technical excellence and innovation.
  3. Drive measurable customer and business outcomes by shipping scalable, resilient, and insightful AI solutions for our International customers.

Responsibilities

This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise, strategic business acumen, and an unwavering commitment to talent development focused on customer impact

Technical and Business Leadership

  • Drive AI Innovation & Growth: Own the end-to-end development and deployment of new, high-impact customer-facing AI/ML capabilities that directly fuel customer acquisition, engagement, and retention across QuickBooks International.
  • Strategic Execution: Define the long-term technical roadmap for the team, balancing immediate business needs with long-term platform health, scale, and maintainability.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as a key technical partner to the Director of Engineering, Product Management, and Data Science leadership to translate business goals into a robust engineering strategy.
  • Operational Excellence: Champion and enforce engineering best practices related to security, observability, and scalability, ensuring our AI/ML systems are robust, highly available, and reliable across all International markets.

Talent and Team Development

  • Build an Elite Team: Aggressively recruit, hire, and onboard top-tier AI/ML and platform engineering talent to rapidly scale the team’s capabilities.
  • Cultivate AI Expertise: Mentor and coach engineers to advance their technical skills in AI, MLOps, and scalable distributed systems, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical mastery.
  • Performance Management: Establish clear performance goals, conduct regular 1:1s, and provide timely, actionable feedback to ensure high individual and team
  • Foster Innovation: Create an environment where the team is empowered to experiment with emerging technologies, propose novel solutions, and drive technical debt reduction.

Qualifications

Core Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in software development, with 4+ years in a management role leading high-performance engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading AI/ML projects from research/prototype to production scale, specifically in a high-growth, high-stakes environment.
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures and developing resilient, scalable services (e.g., using AWS, GCP, or similar cloud platforms).

Leadership & Strategic Acumen

  • Proven ability to drive business growth through the delivery of software solutions; experience in an international or global product context is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional technical acumen and the ability to challenge, guide, and advise senior engineers on system design, architecture decisions, and operational complexity, particularly around AI/ML models.
  • Recruiting & Mentoring Excellence: A proven track record of successfully attracting, interviewing, and developing top-tier engineering talent, specifically in the AI domain.
  • Executive Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical ideas, strategies, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical executive audiences.
  • Data-Driven Focus: Proven record of making customer-centric, data-driven product decisions in partnership with Product and Program Management teams.
