Job Overview

Come join the TurboTax organization as a Staff Engineer in the AI-First Tax Experiences team. In this role, you will work with an exciting team of engineers that is helping shape the future of AI-driven experiences in TurboTax by incorporating exciting AI capabilities into customer experiences to deliver unprecedented efficiency, confidence and customer benefits.

The ideal candidate is a Staff Engineer with in-depth expertise in Java/Kotlin and proficiency in full-stack web development. In this role, they will act as technical leaders, driving the design, development, testing, and maintenance of large-scale features and capabilities, with work spanning multiple engineers. Experience with AI driven capabilities and features.


Responsibilities

  • Lead critical projects across the full extent of the software development lifecycle, using both Java/Kotlin and JavaScript/React

  • Own and elevate engineering and operational excellence within a given domain, identifying opportunities and driving improvements

  • Drive the technical design of secure, scalable and resilient production systems and applications. Contribute to technical strategy and direction of the broader organization.

  • Identify, coach, and elevate engineering talent in the team and the overall organization through mentoring and influencing team staff composition.

  • Roughly 40-60% hands-on technical work

  • Work cross-functionally with product management and experience design to generate solutions to solve customer or technology problems


Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience developing front-end, back-end, or mobile applications

  • Expertise in one or more of the following tech stacks: Java/Spring, ReactJS, Kotlin/Swift or equivalent

  • Deep knowledge of software engineering fundamentals (data structures & algorithms) and their practical application

  • Strong experience designing and developing scalable production systems and applications

  • Strong understanding of all aspects of a software development life cycle (design, development, operations, etc)

  • Previous experience working with Artificial Intelligence (GenAI or otherwise).
