As a DevSecOps Engineer Intern within our Nelnet Business Services (NBS) division, you’ll play a critical role in embedding security within our software development lifecycle, ensuring our applications remain secure, scalable, and efficient.We’re seeking a motivated student entering their junior year or above, with a passion for DevSecOps and a desire to gain hands-on experience in securing pipelines. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a DevSecOps Engineer Intern, you will:

Integrate Security into CI/CD Pipelines
Work with development teams to embed code scanning tools and techniques into Azure Dev Ops and GitHub workflows.
Assist in automating security checks to identify vulnerabilities before production deployment.

Azure Development
Collaborate on cloud-based development projects using Microsoft Azure.
Gain exposure to securing and managing infrastructure as code (IaC).

Tooling and Platform Support
Gain hands-on experience with GitHub for version control and CI/CD pipeline development.
Explore and support security tools like Wiz to enhance cloud security posture management.

Collaborate Across Teams
Partner with developers, security engineers, and DevOps professionals to implement secure development practices.
Contribute to cross-functional discussions to identify and mitigate security risks early in the development cycle.
EDUCATION:
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a related field. Current standing Junior or above.
EXPERIENCE:
Coursework or practical experience in software development or cybersecurity.
Hands-on experience with GitHub for version control and working with CI/CD pipelines.
Basic understanding of DevSecOps concepts, including secure coding practices and integrating security into the software development lifecycle.
Familiarity with Azure development and cloud computing fundamentals.
Exposure to code scanning tools (e.g., Snyk, SonarQube, Checkmarx, etc.) or similar automated security solutions.
Experience with cloud security tools, such as Wiz, to monitor and enhance security posture.
Previous project or internship work that involved collaborating in cross-functional teams or integrating tools into CI/CD pipelines.
COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
Foundational knowledge of DevSecOps principles and secure software development lifecycle practices.
Experience with or exposure to GitHub workflows and version control.
Basic understanding of cloud development, preferably in Azure.
Familiarity with code scanning tools (e.g., Snyk, SonarQube, etc.) or other security automation solutions.
Experience or exposure to Wiz or similar cloud security platforms.
Strong desire to learn and apply new security and development technologies.
