Develops, prepares and analyzes financial and operating data while performing a variety of complex accounting duties. Assists with completion of other department projects.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with financial statement preparation and consolidation of financial statements, including analysis of financial results and statements of cash flows.
2. Develop and communicate solutions for continuous process improvement within the job function.
3. Perform calculations, posting of journal entries, analysis and reporting related to complex GAAP accounting transactions.
4. Apply results of research to the Company’s operations and/or specific transactions.
5. Reconcile complex accounts, extensive research, advanced problem solving and resolution within corporate standards.
6. Assist with various accounting projects and report on performance.
7. Document, report and follow through on recommendations from projects.
8. Manage expectations through consistent and timely updates.
9. Work with external organizations and internal departments on project initiatives and various accounting issues.
10. Participate in the development, testing and reviewing of internal controls over financial reporting in order to meet the Company’s financial reporting objectives and for Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance.
11. Perform GAAP research and analysis and apply results to the Company’s operations and/or specific transactions.
12. Assist in monitoring and implementing new accounting guidance as determined applicable to the Company.

This position offers a hybrid work option. Nelnet values flexibility and understands the importance of work-life integration. Our hybrid work environment allows associates living within 30 miles of an office location to work remotely for part of the week, while also fostering collaboration and team connection through in-office presence three days per week.

EDUCATION:
1. 4-year degree in Business Administration/Accounting.
2. CPA preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
1. 5+ years accounting experience.
2. Experience Identifying, analyzing, documenting, and monitoring internal controls over .financial reporting.
3. Experience with GAAP research and application.
4. Experience in Financial statement consolidation, including statements of cash flows.
5. Experience with bank payments and credit card processing preferred.
6. SEC reporting experience preferred.

COMPETENCIES – SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
1. Understanding of basic accounting concepts as well as consolidation accounting and strong knowledge of GAAP.
2. Ability to work under and deliver under deadline constraints and manage multiple tasks.
3. Utilization of effective organization and prioritization skills to complete assignments within established time frames.
4. Ability to work independently with initiative and appropriate supervision.
5. Initiative to troubleshoot problems independently, examine existing processes, identify and analyze situations and generate alternative solutions or suggestions on how to do things better.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
7. Effectively interact with various divisions and levels of management throughout the company.
8. Excellent PC and technology skills including MS Excel & Word.
9. Knowledge of internal controls as they relate to financial reporting.
10. Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures, including generally accepted accounting principles.
11. Ability to independently research the proper accounting treatment for significant and/or unusual transactions.
12. Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

Pay range for this role is $70,000-$100,000 annually, depending on experience.
