Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Merchant Experiences team is responsible for crafting the Stripe Dashboard, the primary interface enabling millions of businesses to manage their online payments, gain critical insights, and grow their business with Stripe. Our mission is to make the Dashboard "the most powerful way to use Stripe."

Stripe’s mission is to accelerate global economic and technological development. As Stripe continues to evolve, the Stripe Dashboard is more critical than ever. It's the primary touchpoint for users and is central to Stripe's ambition to offer a flexible and comprehensive platform for businesses of all sizes, and our commitment to setting the industry standard for user and developer experience.

Historically, the full power of Stripe's capabilities was often API-first. The Dashboard is evolving to provide intuitive access to this power for all users. This helps businesses easily discover and use the full breadth of Stripe's offerings (from payments and revenue management to financial services and tools for online platforms), making it simpler for new users to get started and succeed, and enabling existing users to grow more efficiently.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manager on the Merchant Experiences team, you will lead a highly skilled team of senior engineers to define and deliver transformative changes to the Stripe Dashboard. You will be at the forefront of realizing our vision for a Dashboard that is a professional-grade tool – fast and fluid, consistently crafted, extensible by default, and seamlessly interoperable. This is a high-visibility role with direct involvement in shaping the strategic direction of a product critical to Stripe's success and achieving significant company goals, such as dramatically improving the Dashboard experience for businesses with complex needs and ensuring exceptional performance. We are seeking an autonomous leader with strong product sense, a deep passion for exceptional UI and usability, and the ability to bring fresh perspectives to our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of senior software engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and user-centricity.
  • Partner closely with product, design, research, and engineering leaders across Stripe to define and execute the strategic vision for the Dashboard. You'll act as a key steward of Stripe's user experience, ensuring it delivers on our promise of a powerful, integrated platform.
  • Collaborate deeply with product teams across Stripe to bring innovative new product experiences to life within the Dashboard, delivering step-function improvements to the user experience and how businesses interact with Stripe's diverse product suite.
  • Drive the technical and product roadmap for your team, directly impacting Stripe’s ability to serve both startups through to large users with complex needs, and improve critical user experience metrics like web vitals.
  • Champion best practices in software development, UI/UX design, and operational excellence to build a Dashboard that is not only powerful but also delightful, fast, and reliable, leveraging and informing Stripe's core frontend frameworks.
  • Foster an environment where your team can operate with high autonomy, making impactful decisions and delivering on ambitious goals that support company-wide objectives.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of direct engineering management experience
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record of shipping complex, user-facing products.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring teams of senior/principal engineers, enabling them to achieve high impact.
  • Exceptional product sense and a deep understanding of UI/UX principles, with a passion for crafting intuitive and powerful user experiences for diverse user segments, from individual founders to complex operational teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, define strategic direction, and drive execution in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Experience as a senior leader responsible for delivering high-visibility surfaces, understanding the nuances of building for a complex, multi-product ecosystem.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders towards strategic outcomes.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience transforming or significantly evolving large-scale, user-facing platforms, bringing new perspectives and approaches to solving user problems.
  • Experience working extensively with, and contributing to the evolution of, design systems, component libraries, or platform-level UI infrastructure to build consistent and high-quality user experiences across multiple products.

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (typically, 35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $214,500 - $321,800. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
