Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The API Lifecycle team is building the systems that power Stripe’s internal and public APIs. We’re looking for people that are passionate about distilling complexity across a breadth of problems and that strive in high impact environments. We aim to create new tools and experiences that can solve hard problems for our users—both internal and external developers.

For this role, we are looking for an engineer that will build the foundation, tooling, framework, and automation required to improve Stripe’s API lifecycle (available via new API versions, SDKs, Dashboard, and other surfaces). These responsibilities will require that the candidate partners closely with a Release Manager and with various teams including SDK teams, product developers, docs engineers, and a host of other stakeholders.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Help define and shape the release process for Stripe’s public API infrastructure
  • Build the platform and tooling necessary to enable smooth and automated rollout of API changes across their end-to-end lifecycle
  • Ensure our APIs are secure, reliable, and performant
  • Solve product problems and build delightful API and developer experiences for our users
  • Work across different products, tech stacks, and programming languages
  • Turn ambiguous problems that our developer users are facing into concrete products, from proposal, to kick-off, to building, and launching
  • Develop and execute against both short and long-term roadmaps. Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation
  • Collaborate, mentor and provide support to other team members

Who you are

We’re looking for software engineers with experience building APIs and scalable distributed systems in service based architecture.

The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years in engineering across a wide range of products
  • Demonstrated experience of leading initiatives across large engineering organizations, spanning multiple teams and leveraging deep domain expertise to influence tech roadmap planning and execution
  • A strong passion for API design and amazing developer experiences
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment involving different functions, stakeholders, and subject matter experts
  • Solve problems autonomously; ability to research a technical or product domain and apply your knowledge when designing and scoping projects
  • Attention to detail, especially around performance, accessibility, reliability, and security

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with multiple languages (Ruby, Go, Java)
  • Strong, demonstrated writing abilities, both in terms of documentation intended for end-users and executive/strategic comms intended to drive the team direction
  • You prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones, and have a good intuition for what will last and scale
  • Previous industry experience managing software releases
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $150,500 - $233,500. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
