Your Opportunity

As our Senior Data Engineer, you’ll be the lynchpin of WeMoney’s data-driven success. You’ll architect and manage end-to-end data pipelines that harness frontier performance techniques—enabling real-time supply-demand matching, powering personalised experiences, and equipping our Product, AI/ML, and team members to create life-changing features for millions of Australians. You’ll also ensure that data integrity, security, and compliance remain at the forefront.

This is a mission-critical role with a significant social impact—your work will help Australians to reach their aspirations sooner.

What You’ll Do

Design & Implement Modern Data Architecture

• Develop and refine scalable, high-performance data pipelines that collect, transform, and load data from diverse sources (e.g., transactional systems, 3rd-party APIs, event streams).
• Champion a robust infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) leveraging containers, serverless, and microservices for fault-tolerant data workflows.

Empower AI, Analytics & Personalisation

• Collaborate with ML Engineers and Data Scientists to ensure data readiness for personalised recommendations, predictive forecasting, and reinforcement learning models.
• Build and maintain real-time streaming solutions (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Spark Streaming) enabling instant financial insights for our members.

Focus on Data Quality & Protection

• Implement best-in-class data governance practices to meet CDR, privacy, and regulatory requirements in a high-stakes fintech environment.
• Leverage tools (e.g., Great Expectations, DBT, Airflow) for data validation, monitoring, and lineage tracking to maintain consistent, reliable datasets.

Unlock Supply-Demand Innovations

• Develop the backbone for supply-demand matching algorithms—ensuring seamless integration between data streams, ML models, and user-facing applications.
• Collaborate on advanced schema designs that capture, unify, and transform complex financial data, paving the way for revolutionary product features.

Optimise Data Infrastructure & Performance

• Use cutting-edge database and storage solutions (NoSQL, columnar, time-series) to maximise throughput and minimise latency.
• Drive continuous improvement in data engineering by introducing new tools, automating processes, and enhancing performance benchmarks.

Mentorship & Collaboration

• Work closely with junior and mid-level data engineers, providing guidance on best practices and career development.
• Act as a technical liaison across Product, AI, and Analytics—demystifying complex data structures and enabling swift, informed decisions.

Contribute to Mission-Critical Impact

• Ensure every data pipeline and model integration reflects WeMoney’s commitment to positive financial outcomes for our members.
• Champion resilience, scalability, and innovation in every project, solidifying WeMoney as an industry-leading fintech platform.

What we’re looking for

Technical Mastery in Data Systems

• 5+ years in data engineering roles, with a track record of delivering large-scale, real-time data pipelines.
• Proficient in Python, SQL, and frameworks like Apache Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink.
• Experience with cloud-based architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern deployment strategies (Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).

Deep Understanding of ETL/ELT and MLOps

• Skilled in building CI/CD pipelines for data jobs, ensuring reliable updates and smooth rollouts.
• Familiarity with feature stores, model versioning, and data transformations for machine learning workflows.

Passion for Data Integrity & Compliance

• Knowledge of CDR regulations, privacy laws (e.g., GDPR), and security best practices—key for working in highly regulated fintech environments.
• Expertise in setting up data catalogues, lineage tracking, and compliance monitoring tools.

Problem-Solving & Innovation Mindset

• History of solving complex real-time data challenges, from supply-demand to user personalisation scenarios.
• Thrives on exploring emerging technologies and finding creative ways to handle big, fast-moving data sets.

Collaboration & Communication

• Apt at translating technical intricacies into actionable insights for Product, AI, Analytics, and Design teams.
