We’re looking for a Government Relations and Public Policy Manager (APAC) on an ongoing basis to advance our policy and regulatory objectives in the Asia Pacific and help us get closer to achieving our mission of lower cost, higher speed and more convenient and transparent cross border payments.
You will be based in our Singapore office and work closely with our product, banking, public relations and legal teams across South Asian and South East Asian markets.
The team:
- Over the past ten years, Wise has given millions of people and small businesses the power to handle money better. The Government Relations Team is a small and agile group of GR professionals who prioritise active advocacy and campaigns to achieve our mission.
- We primarily focus on ways to illustrate transparent pricing of foreign exchange products and means by which we can seek direct access to payment systems as well as finding ways to ensure customer experience is as frictionless as possible.
What you’ll experience:
- You will be based in Singapore and report to the APAC Government Relations Lead (based in Sydney); you will have a high degree of autonomy in how you work to achieve our mission goals.
- Working closely with colleagues in Product, Banking, Compliance and Public Relations, you will generate, develop and implement public policy campaigns to achieve our regulatory goals.
- You will be expected to travel to other markets to advance our mission as well as our global offices as needed.
- You will also be expected to play an integral part supporting our APAC leadership team in their external facing responsibilities amongst trade associations and with governments and regulators.
You must have:
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in government, politics, public policy or a related field. You will have deep experience operating in at least one market in South or South East Asia, and preferably across several other markets.
- We will expect you to be a persuasive advocate and skilled communicator in both written and spoken words. Your written work will be both for internal and public consumption and your oral advocacy may be used in the media.
- You will need to be tenacious, inquisitive and have an appetite to learn about new areas of policy and their application to our business. You will have an ability to work across teams and cultures.
- You will be a natural self-starter, demonstrably able to manage your time productively, capable of framing a strategy and then meeting your stated objectives to deliver our mission goals.
- You will enjoy working in a diverse and dynamic workplace, with respect for and curiosity about other cultures and systems.
The preferred candidate is likely to have:
- A solid understanding of financial services, payments and consumer protection policy or transferable knowledge and experience of operating in another regulated sector.
- In addition to fluency in written and spoken English, an ability to speak/read/write the official (non-English) language of at least one APAC market.
- Experience operating in APAC markets with an established network of contacts and an existing understanding of government structures, regulatory systems and political institutions.
- A flexible approach to work is desirable given the need to work across multiple timezones.
